Character Development
At Old Sarum Primary, we believe strong character development helps children thrive both in and out of the classroom. Alongside teaching reading, writing and maths, we support pupils to build values such as respect, responsibility and kindness. These qualities help children make positive choices, work well with others and learn from mistakes in a safe and encouraging environment.
We focus on practical skills that children can use every day. This includes learning how to manage feelings, listen carefully, take turns and show empathy. Through classroom routines, age-appropriate discussions and consistent expectations, children practise becoming resilient learners. They are encouraged to persevere with challenges and to understand that effort and improvement are part of growing up.
Parents and carers play a vital role in reinforcing these messages at home. We invite families to talk about behaviour, friendships and decision-making using everyday situations, such as school routines, playtime and community activities. If you would like to know more about the specific values and approaches used at Old Sarum Primary, please speak to your child’s class team or contact the school office.
